Financial Peace University

08 Jan 2019
0

Financial Peace University (FPU) is coming to Richland in February!  We will start our 9-week course on Sunday, February 10, from 4-6 p.m.  FPU teaches us how to manage our money according to how God designed us to do so.  Since 1994, millions of people have used these principles to transform their lives.  This class will be for any person or couple who struggles with debt, living paycheck to paycheck, burdened by student loans, wanting to make better financial decisions, or even just starting out in marriage.

Childcare will be provided.

Registration is required, along with the purchase of the class materials online.  The deadline to sign up is Tuesday, January 15, but the sooner the better.

Please see Preston or Kami Thompson if you have any questions, or contact the church.  If you are interested in helping sponsor a couple to go through the class or you would like to help with childcare, please let them know. Thank you!

Becoming the Villain

03 Jan 2019

This coming Sunday, January 6, Pastor Nick will begin a new 5-week sermon series from 1 Samuel on the life of King Saul. How did Saul go from being a humble young man to a vindictive and jealous king?

Here are the messages Nick hopes to cover in this series:

1 Samuel 13:5-14 – “Villains Follow Fear”

1 Samuel 14:24-46 – “Villains Love Power”

1 Samuel 15:1-22 – “Villains Refuse Submission”

1 Samuel 18:7-9 – “Villains Are Narcissistic”

1 Samuel 28:3-8, 15-19 – “Villains Are Foolish”

How can we avoid falling into the traps to which Saul succumbed? Sometimes, we might like to think we are heroes, but could our actions be leading us to become villains? We pray this sermon series will help you seek the Lord and grow in your relationship with Him.

As always, you are invited to join us on Sunday mornings for Family Groups (9:30) and our morning worship celebration (10:40), and Sunday evenings for our prayer and praise service. We also have a free supper on Wednesday evenings at 5:45, followed by activities for all ages from 6:30 – 7:30.

For more information on our weekly schedule, please click HERE. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.

Ladies and gentlemen, it is time to show off your best baking skills for a great cause. On January 5, 2019, at Richland at 5 p.m., we will have a pie and cake auction in order to raise support for those going on mission trips in 2019. We have missionaries going on trips to Guatemala, North Dakota, and Central Asia this coming summer.

Here is what is required: 1) make your best 1 or 2 pies or cakes for the auction. 2) Invite your friends and family to come to the auction.

Also, we will have a dinner for this event, so everyone can eat before the auction begins.

Remember, this is a fundraiser and will be a fun time of fellowship for everyone. If you have any questions please contact Preston Thompson at 573-826-9584 or grandcrossings@gmail.com.

Please mark your calendar for these upcoming opportunities…

Thursday, November 29 (7:00 – 8:00 p.m.) = Are You Called into Ministry?
Have you ever thought God might be calling you into the ministry or missions? What if you sense a desire to be a worship leader or serve in children or youth ministry? Or, maybe you know you are called to preach but need some help refining that calling. If so, Preston Thompson (the Director of Missions for Grand Crossings Baptist Association) invites you to come to this introductory meeting for a new training ground that is being developed specifically for churches in our area.

Sunday, December 2 (2:00 – 2:45 p.m.) = Monthly Ministry at Fulton Nursing & Rehab
This takes place the first Sunday of each month. Anyone is welcome to join us as we sing hymns with the residents, and Pastor Nick preaches a short message.

Thursday, December 4 (7:00 – 8:00 p.m.) = Disaster Relief Ministry Meeting
Preston Thompson is calling all trained volunteers from Grand Crossings Baptist Association and everyone else interested in being a part of Disaster Relief to join us for this meeting. We are seeking to get more organized on how we can go out on deployment as an associational team and will also talk about the upcoming trainings.

Saturday, December 8 (9:00 – 11:00 a.m.) = Candy-Making Saturday
Join us for this family-fun event of fellowship and candy preparation for the Christmas season.

Sunday, December 9 (12:00 – 1:30 p.m.) = Recycled Teenagers’ Christmas Dinner & Party
Our senior adults are invited to join us for a Christmas lunch and gift exchange.

Sunday, December 23 (5:00 – 5:45 p.m.) = Christmas Candlelight Service
One of the highlights of the year for many people, this short candlelight service is a great time of worship through song, prayer, the reading of the Christmas story, and a short message.

Saturday, January 5 (5:00 – 8:00 p.m.) = Missions Supper and Pie & Cake Auction
Ladies and gentlemen, it is time to show off your best baking skills for a great cause. Our church serves at the Fulton Soup Kitchen on the second Thursday of every month. This Thursday, we will be serving from 6 – 8 p.m. For more information and/or to sign up, please contact Amber Clevenger (573-544-6589), fill out a contact form, or see the sign-up sheet in the church foyer. Thank you to those who have been faithfully serving in this great ministry to our community!

A few things have changed recently, so here is the update from Amber:

The new temporary location is at Backer Dining Hall on Westminster Campus. We will not need to bring anything, as all food and drinks will be provided.

Westminster Administration has asked for a few ground rules so that things flow smoothly…

1. Volunteers who can or choose to walk children from John C. Harris Community Center to Westminster will meet Lisa Thornburg at the flagpole at 6:15 p.m. (flagpole at the community center).

2. All other adults/volunteers will meet at the Berlin Wall Sculpture on campus at 6:40 p.m.

3. Everyone will then go in at Backer Dining Hall as a group, get food at the buffet, and eat in the side dining room.

4. Volunteers will help the kids (and anyone else) get their food and drinks through the line and sit down.

5. Volunteers will help clean up afterward the meal.

Upcoming dates to serve: November 8, December 13, January 10, February 14.

Ask the Pastor & Something New

15 Oct 2018

Each Wednesday evening, our church has activities for all ages, including supper at 5:45 and prayer meeting and Bible study for adults. Last Wednesday, we finished (for the time-being) Ask the Pastor during our adults’ Bible study time.

Do you have questions about the Bible, faith, church, family, ministry, etc. that you would like to ask Pastor Nick? If so, let us know HERE, as we will resume Ask the Pastor at a later date.

Starting this Wednesday, though, we will be discussing the “Fear of Man.” What does it mean to fear man, and how can we live our lives fearing God, rather than being consumed with a fear of what others might think about us?

If you have been unable to join us on Wednesday evenings, we invite you to listen to the summaries of  Nick’s responses to the Ask the Pastor questions submitted to him. These are available on the free MyRichland App, or you can listen to any of our previous episodes by clicking the appropriate links below.
