New Sermon Series on Politics

27 Jul 2020
0

On Sunday morning, August 2, 2020, we will begin a 3-week sermon series called The Red and The Blue. Knowing that politics are so divisive, we hope this series encourages you to be politically active, and yet still be charitable toward those who disagree with you. Jesus Christ is our ultimate authority, and if we follow Him, we will desire to do what is right and live peacefully among our brothers and sisters. Instead of being a slave to politics, we should live as servants to the One True King.

Here is the schedule of messages for this series…

Sunday, August 2 – Carson Humphreys preaching from Titus 3:1-8 (“Be Political without Being a Jerk”)

Sunday, August 9 – Nick Drake preaching from Psalm 146:1-10 (“Don’t Make Politics Your Idol”)

Sunday, August 16 – Nick Drake preaching from 1 Corinthians 11:17-34 (“Unity in Jesus, Not in Politics”)

We hope to see you Sunday morning at 9:30 for Family Groups (aka Sunday School) and 10:40 for our worship celebration. If you have any questions, needs, or prayer requests, please let us know.

On Sunday morning at 10:40, Lord willing, Pastor Nick will begin a new sermon series – Walk Humbly – through the Old Testament book of Micah. Nick hopes to communicate the truth that God is always in control and is perfect in justice and mercy, so we need to walk in humility before Him and before others.

This is the likely schedule of Sunday morning messages, both from Micah and from some special Sundays, over the next 10 weeks:

Sunday, May 31 – Micah 1 (“Recognize God’s Judgment”)

Sunday, June 7 – Micah 2 (“Accept God’s Judgment”)

Sunday, June 14 – Micah 3 (“Respond Rightly to God’s Judgment”)

Sunday, June 21 – Micah 4 (“Find Hope in God’s Judgment”)

Sunday, June 28 – Gideon Sunday (with Rick Smith)

Sunday, July 5 – Special Message from God’s Word (with Carson Humphreys)

Sunday, July 12 – Micah 5 (“Realize the Rescue from God’s Judgment”)

Sunday, July 19 – Micah 6 (“Prepare for God’s Judgment”)

Sunday, July 26 – Micah 7 (“Worship the God of Judgment”)

Sunday, August 2 – Special Message from God’s Word (with Carson Humphreys)

New Sermon Series

13 Apr 2020
0

Beginning Sunday morning, Pastor Nick will start a new sermon series on remembering the work of the cross. Taking a look at Romans 12-13, Nick will challenge you to consider the gospel’s application to our daily lives (as individuals and as a church family). Paul begins Romans 12 declaring our need to be a united, living sacrifice, applying the impartial, amazing gospel of Jesus Christ explained in Romans 1-11.

The gospel transforms lives, and so we must live in light of this truth every day.

Lord willing, this is Nick’s schedule for the messages in this series:

April 19 – “Living Sacrifice” (Romans 12:1-2)

April 26 – “Living Ethics” (Romans 12:9-14)

May 3 – “Living Unity” (Romans 12:15-16)

May 10 – “Living Good” (Romans 12:17-21)

May 17 – “Living Difference” (Romans 13)

If you have any questions, needs, and/or prayer concerns, please contact us. In the meantime, you can keep up with our daily videos of engagement and encouragement in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic by going to our YouTube channel. Hope to see you online Sunday morning!

“From Death to Life”

08 Apr 2020

Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions and our desire to do our part to prevent the further spread of the virus, we will be meeting online again Sunday morning at 11. While we had hoped to host a drive-in worship service where people could remain in their vehicles, we do not yet have the technology to do such a service well. Perhaps we will in the near future, if/while the current health directives continue.

During our Sunday morning online service, Parker Smiley will lead us in a couple of songs of worship to celebrate our Risen Savior, and Pastor Nick will be preaching on the great reality of our journey “From Death to Life” (1 Peter 1:1-9). What a timely reminder in the midst of this pandemic, that we have everlasting hope when we experience everlasting life through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord!

To join us Sunday morning at 11, you can visit us on YouTube or on Facebook.

Here is Nick’s video preview…

If you have any questions about Sunday morning, would like to join an online Family Group (aka Sunday School) meeting, or have any prayer requests, please let us know. Hope to see you online Sunday morning!

COVID-19 Updates

31 Mar 2020
0

To comply with our government’s request and play our part in preventing the further spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), Richland Baptist Church has suspended all of our regularly scheduled Sunday and Wednesday services until further notice, but we are having Sunday morning outdoor worship services at 10:40. We are keeping up with government directives and reevaluating the situation weekly. In the meantime, please join us on our YouTube channel for daily videos and our Sunday morning messages.

This pandemic is unlike anything our world has ever faced because of the ease of air travel and how rapidly it is spreading. We need to take this seriously and truly consider what is best for our church family, our community, and the world (for the glory of God).

Our president and our governor are asking that no groups larger than 10 people gather. Some might argue, “The government can’t tell us what to do.” Indeed, God is our ultimate authority. His Word is our guide, not the government. But, His Word does tell us to obey the government (i.e. Romans 13, which was written to Christians living under the tyranny of the Roman Emperor Nero).

Granted, we also know from God’s Word that we obey no one who asks us to disobey God. So, we have to determine right now – is the government asking us to disobey God? We do not believe so. Now, if they were using this pandemic to try to oppress churches, our response would have to be different. But, they are telling all groups over 10 to stop meeting for now to help prevent the further spread of COVID-19. This is not an attack on any group or cause, but is rather an effort to save lives.

Some might say then, “Well, we are commanded by God to gather regularly for fellowship and worship, so obeying the government’s directives here would cause us to disobey God.” Again, we would disagree with that in the same way that we would tell someone who has the flu or some other contagious disease – do not attend church services until you are well. That is the wise thing to do and the best way you can love your neighbor as yourself. That is not disobeying the Word of God. That is being wise and loving.

All experts across the board agree that the CDC’s recommendations should be followed right now. We hope and pray this gets under control much faster than is being predicted. Join us in praying for a miracle! Of course, let us continue to pray for God’s wisdom and direction, too, as we seek to not only make wise, God-honoring decisions, but also as we seek to love and serve one another and our community. To God be the glory!

Let us pray for God’s mercy and grace in the midst of this pandemic!
